The Jackson State University (JSU) Greater Washington, D.C. Area Alumni
Chapter, Inc.'s purpose is to bring the Alumni of JSU together to perform
and engage in such charitable activities and acts as may be provided
for in by-laws of this Chapter; to bind the alumni of the University
into a united fellowship working together for the common purpose and
advancement of the University.
Activities Committee
This committee is responsible for planning social gatherings for the
chapter, fostering ways and means to insure alumni and visitors feel
welcome, and obtaining alumni support to assist with refreshments when
needed. This committee works the auxiliary activities at the annual
scholarship dinner and dance (directing guests to tables, raffle tickets,
distribution of door prizes).
Fundraising-Logistics Committee
This committee plans, organizes, and promotes our fundraising activities
as well as solicits donations and contributions from corporations. This
committee coordinates the logistics of the annual scholarship dinner
and dance such as working with the venue to select the décor,
setting up the night of the event, negotiating and accommodating with
the band, etc.
Membership Committee
This committee is responsible for maintaining our membership roster,
coming up with new ideas and strategies to recruit new members, and
reclaiming lost members.
Website-Publicity Committee
This committee designs and maintains our website and e-mail distribution
list and is responsible for publicizing chapter events.
Scholarship Committee
This committee handles all requests for scholarships including the selection
of the recipient(s) to be awarded at the annual scholarship dinner and
dance. They are also responsible for planning and attending local college
fairs. This committee also works with the annual scholarship dinner
and dance committees to ensure the recipient(s) and family are accommodated
the night of the event.
Amenities Committee
This committee is responsible for providing appropriate expressions
of concern or sympathy if any of the following shall occur: death, illness,
injury, loss or incapacitation of members of the Chapter and their immediate
family.
