Caribbean Communications Corp., more commonly-known
as Innovative Cable TV St. Thomas-St. John, has been in business
since 1966. It is the oldest cable television system in the
Caribbean. On April 3, 1998, Caribbean Communications Corp.
was purchased by Innovative Communication Corporation. It is
one of six cable systems owned and operated by ICC in the caribbean,
the others being Innovative St. Croix Cable TV, St. Maarten
Cable TV and BVI Cable TV, Martinique TV Cable and Guadeloupe
TV Cable.
Innovative Cable TV St. Thomas-St. John holds a 15-year, non-exclusive
franchise to provide cable television services to the District
of St. Thomas and St. John. This franchise was awarded by the
V.I. Public Services Commission on October 21, 1985 and was
recently renewed in 2000.
As one condition of its franchise agreement with the Virgin
Islands government, Innovative Cable TV St. Thomas-St. John
provides a minimum of one free cable connection to all public
schools, libraries, police stations, fire stations and government
departments. The company also provides one basic channel to
the government, cable channel 10, which is controlled by the
Office of the Governor. The company pays 5% of all revenues
derived from cable operations to the VI Government as a franchise
fee.
Innovative Cable TV St. Thomas-St. John operates a 550 megahertz
system capable of delivering 77 channels. It offers a variety
of channels and packages designed to appeal to all viewing preferences
and priced accordingly. In addition to the most commonly-requested
broadcast and satellite-delivered channels, Innovative Cable
TV St. Thomas-St. John offers seven pay-per-view channels showing
current hit movies, live sporting events and adult entertainment.
